Now-stalgia by Eeshan Kashyap
What is the present? Is it the exact moment we live in? Is it the current situation that we are facing? Practically, it's the very second of your being, but in theory, we can prove that it's a mix of time zones. Everything around us that we feel, see, or use is a result of evolution. The cycle tire that evolved to a car tire or the aircraft landing gear was once just used on a bullock cart. From items to practices that we apply daily were once on a very basic level. The life decisions that we take today, right now in fact, would be a reflection on the mistakes that we have made in our past, and keeping in mind the consequences that they might have in the future. Yes, we live in the present, but this very second is co-dependent upon the seconds that came before and after.

Reading random life philosophy on a brand’s page that sells home/interior accessories might seem irrelevant, but what if we say that the introductory paragraph that you read in your past (maybe a few seconds ago) was actually dependent upon the one that you are reading in the present, and the one that you will read further in this blog? The reason for such an introduction is Now-stalgia. Yes, inspired by Nostalgia but different from the actual meaning, we have launched a new carpet collection.
Designed by Eeshaan Kashyap, manufactured at the heart of our very being, using the centuries-old hand-crafting techniques, Now-stalgia is much more than a carpet collection. It is the existence of modern art, traditional crafting techniques brought together for the present and the future. Eeshaan’s aim behind this collection was to bring together the coexistence of all three tenses of time. In his words, “The time loop of being inspired by the past, working in the present to create a classic for the future. In a dreamlike state, we are trying to create a memory of tomorrow. Old style is found anew with a calm comfort and revitalized meaning. “
While designing the rugs in this collection, Eeshaan mainly used the design inspired by the Ottoman Empire. The Palm Leaf motif, the crescent motif, and the Chintamani motif can be seen on the rugs’ canvas, but in a contemporary manner. Kashyap envisioned designing something, a cross-cultural collection inspired form the Silk velvet Ottoman textile with a focus on an exquisite geometric motif with a play of sheen and colour. We think that he might have felt Nostalgic while he researched this as just like how the art of carpet weaving was expanded to the world, the designs in the collection are the ones that were used in palaces, tents, and robes (royal robes), bridging the taste between Persian and Europe, which the Ottoman Empire spanned. Once these designs were woven onto the canvas using materials like silk, velvet, and metallic thread, it gave the carpets magnificence and opulence. Making them a perfect fit in the India Modern homes.
The three motifs have individual importances as well. We will discuss this in the blogs further, where we will talk about the rugs in the collection.
Overall, just like Eeshaan’s other works, this collection breaks all the creative barriers of art. The collection not only gave a new life to the motifs dominantly used during the Ottoman empire but also a new word and existence, Now-Stalgia. If you are getting a rug from this collection, it will bless your space with timelessness. You will have a piece of decor that would define the designer’s vision. “Old style is found anew with a calm comfort and revitalized meaning”.
